How to Balance Your Blood Sugar

I've loved learning about the importance of balancing your blood sugar over the past year. In this week's episode of the Live Purely Podcast, Kelly LeVeque and I talk about how blood sugar needs a rebrand. A lot of people hear that word and think it's only something that diabetics should worry about, but in reality, we all need to be paying attention to our blood sugar. It can be overwhelming to know where to start, which is why Kelly created the Fab 4, an easy-to-follow formula for creating blood sugar-balancing meals of clean protein, fat, fiber, and greens. Below we'll dive in a little more to what this means and some of my favorite smoothie recipes Kelly created that follow this formula.

Fab Four


The fab four consists of protein, fat, fiber, and greens, a short list that Kelly LeVeque put together for her clients of things that don't crazily impact your blood sugar. Eating to support the balance of your blood sugar has been known to give you more energy, fewer cravings, natural weight loss, better sleep, and more focus. So how does this work? In short, proteins break down into amino acids, which have been known to have little to no effect on your blood sugar and provides your body with all the essential amino acids it needs. Fats slow down the digestion of that meal & that's going to elongate your blood sugar curve, making it slower to release the sugar that you have eaten or the starch that you have eaten into your bloodstream. Lastly, there's fiber and greens, which wrap up sugar and starch and slowly release into your bloodstream so you don't experience a hard and fast spike.
