Morning Rituals to Cure the Winter Blues

Morning Rituals to Cure the Winter Blues

Winter can sometimes take a toll on your mind, body, and routines. The grey skies and lack of sunshine can put you in a rut. Over the years, I have learned what helps me cure the winter blues and wanted to share my morning routine:

Mindful Movement
Find movement that brings you joy and do it daily (even if it's only 15 mins). I love the Sculpt Society quickie workouts that range from 5-30 minutes. Once I start, I always want to go longer than planned because its fun and feels so good mentally and physically.

Reset and Refresh Your Mind
Take 5 minutes for mediation. I love the Peloton app mediation or more recently just started listening to the meditations on Superhuman. Meditation helps to decrease cortisol, reduce negative emotions and help you better deal with stress.

Stay Unplugged Upon Waking Up
Don't scroll on social media! Starting your day looking at other peoples stories and playing the comparison game just isn't going to set you up for happiness and success.

Supplement with Vitamin D and Omega 3's
Low levels of Vitamin D are connected with depression and since most of us or chronically low, it's an essential vitamin to be taking daily. In addition, Omega-3’s can help maintain healthy levels of dopamine and serotonin (the feel good neurotransmitters) that increase happiness and reduce symptoms of depression.

Get Some Fresh Air
Get outside first thing in the morning to soak in some fresh sunlight to increase both your serotonin and dopamine levels.
