Your Guide to Shopping Seasonally and Locally

Your Guide to Shopping Seasonally and Locally
What do you love about shopping at the Farmers Market?
Shopping at the Farmers Market is one of my absolute favorite Saturday rituals. It’s a place of inspiration, especially when I discover fresh, seasonal ingredients that spark new ideas for delicious dishes. Supporting local agriculture and knowing exactly where my ingredients come from makes cooking and eating feel incredibly mindful and nourishing.

Why is it important to shop seasonally and locally?
Shopping seasonally and locally is key for both our health and the health of our planet. Seasonal foods are harvested at their peak freshness, making them richer in nutrients and flavor. Supporting local farms means less transportation and packaging, significantly reducing environmental impact. Moreover, when we choose farms practicing regenerative agriculture, we’re contributing directly to healthier soil, increased biodiversity, more nutrient-rich produce, and a stronger, more resilient ecosystem.

What is always on your Farmers Market shopping list?
Aside from the beautiful seasonal fruits and veggies, I always pick up nutrient-rich microgreens like broccoli sprouts and pea shoots for salads and sandwiches. I also love fresh feta from a local dairy—it’s creamy and tangy, perfect crumbled into salads or atop roasted veggies. Local honey is another must-have; I use it regularly in homemade salad dressings, marinades, or simply drizzled on fresh fruit for a sweet finish. And nothing beats fresh sourdough from the market, a definite staple!

Where is your favorite Farmers Market, and why?
My absolute favorite Farmers Market is right here in Boulder, CO. It embodies everything I adore about farmers market shopping—vibrant produce, passionate farmers, and a fantastic community atmosphere. Each visit feels like a celebration of local food and connection, set against the backdrop of the stunning Flatirons. It's a weekly highlight!
