5 Tips To Maintain A Healthy Scalp & Hair

with Helen Reavey, Founder
& Creative Director of Act + Acre

You hear people talk a lot about hair care, but did you know that scalp care matters just as much, if not more? Taking care of your scalp health is important for healthy growth and smooth, shiny, moisturizing hair. This week on the Live Purely Podcast, I chatted all things hair & scalp care with Helen Reavey, Founder & Creative Director of Act + Acre and a board-certified trichologist. Helen is passionate about hair wellness because she wants to not only help people look good, but feel good as well. Keep reading for tips and listen to the full episode below.

1. Avoid heavily fragranced products

These typically contain harsh chemicals such as sulfates and silicones as they block moisture from getting to your hair. Some of our favorite products that have incredible ingredients are from Act + Acre.

2. Exfoliate

Use a chemical exfoliant weekly that balances your scalp and brings it to homeostasis.

3. Wash your hair often

People are under the impression that washing your hair a lot is bad, but that's just a myth. It's necessary, especially if you're experiencing hair loss. It cleans the scalp so nutrients can be delivered to your hair follicles & support healthy hair growth.

4. Avoid using heat often

The same rule applies to heat on hair for your scalp as well. Too much heat can ultimately cause damage. Air dry your hair if you have time or just embrace your natural locks.

5. Eat foods to support healthy hair

Nourish from the inside out. Helen's top two nutrients for healthy hair are iron and protein, which you can find in foods like berries, eggs, fatty fish, like salmon, avocados, nuts, clean meat sources, and more.
